Education and Training

AFCNA provides excellent faith-based education, information and resources to:

  • equip people for effective Faith Community Care
  • and facilitate Faith Community Nursing.

AFCNA aims to support you to effectively care for one another so that every person is able to thrive and live an ‘abundant life’ (John 10:10bNIV). AFCNA’s education, training and resources will assist you to understand, commence and sustain Faith Community Care in your local Christian church or organisation, adding an empowering health focus to your pastoral care. We also prepare and equip Registered Nurses for the specialist role of Faith Community Nurse, enabling holistic (body, mind, spirit, relationship) care to individuals and families in your faith community and the people you serve.

Online Education Hub: The AFCNA Education Hub provides a variety of learning opportunities using professionals and people with lived experience who provide contemporary information and examples that inform compassionate Faith Community Care. This learning may be provided free, for a donation, or in the case of longer courses – an affordable course fee. Registration is always required.  AFCNA’s online Education Hub can be accessed at any time and in any place, so you can take most courses at your convenience.

Web Workshops: AFCNA’s Web Workshops are 1-2 hour interactive, skills-based learning opportunities conducted over Zoom. They are facilitated by a person with expertise or experience in the topic to be discussed. Registration is required as numbers are limited to 12 participants to ensure everyone can fully participate. Be quick to reserve your place for these terrific learning opportunities because they book out quickly! 

‘Principles and Practice of Faith Community Nursing’ course: This course provides the foundational preparation for Registered Nurses who wish to work in a voluntary or salaried Faith Community Nurse role. The course is also valuable for health professionals, pastoral care workers and chaplains in Christian health services, schools/colleges, aged care, community services, churches and parishes.  

Community of Practice: We have a one hour online session to explore a theme relevant to Faith Community Care. These sessions focus on creating opportunities to interact with peers and share your ideas, communicate concerns, celebrate wins, and encourage and pray for one another. Everyone can participate.  Your registration is required to access a unique Zoom link for each event. 

Explore sessions:  one hour Zoom sessions are open to any interested person. They provide a 30 minute explanation of Faith Community Care and Faith Community Nursing with examples of these ministries in action. They close with a 20 min Q & A with an experienced Faith Community Nurse and/or Care Coordinator. Registration is required and you will be provided with a unique Zoom link.
